On 10 February 2014, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia hosted an exhibition Itinerarium Romanum Serbiae (Routes of Roman Emperors in Serbia) in cooperation with the Archeological Park Viminacium, in the Serbian House at 7 Dering Street W1S 1AE in London. Before coming to London, the exhibition has been put on display in Washington D.C. The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the United Kingdom, H.E. Dr Ognjen Pribicević made an introductory statement and welcomed the guests – members of diplomatic corps and cultural organizations in UK as well as representatives of Serbian diaspora. The curator of the exhibition, Dr. Miomir Korać, then spoke about a large archeological project which started some years ago and culminated in the opening to the public of five major archeological sites which have become a popular tourist attraction. As many as 17 Roman emperors were born in the territory of the present-day Serbia, the largest number of emperors born outside Italy. The exhibition features replicas of all 17 busts.
The exhibition will be open every day from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. until the end of February. There is a catalogue in English which contains all relevant information regarding this interesting part of our ancient history. |
