Serbian Ambassador in London Aleksandra Joksimovic hosted Minister of Science, Technologic Development and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia Dr Jelena Begovic and members of the delegation during their study visit to the United Kingdom from 21 to 25 January 2023.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Ireland on a non-residential basis was on a two-day working visit to Dublin. On this occasion, the Ambassador had a meeting with the Director of the Directorate for Enlargement (EU) and Western Balkans of the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs, P. Kelly, where the improvement of bilateral cooperation was discussed, as well as Irish support for Serbia on its way to integration into the European Union.

On the occasion of the Armistice Day, the delegation of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia comprising of Her Excellency Aleksandra Joksimović, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the UK, and Colonel Dragan Dabović, Defence Attaché, laid a wreath at Brookwood Military Cemetery, in the vicinity of London, on Thursday, 11 November 2022 at 11 am.

In a joint organization with the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, a promotion of wines from Serbia was held at the Embassy. The event was attended by a large number of representatives of the British business community, interested partners, representatives of the diplomatic corps and diaspora.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in London, Aleksandra Joksimović, visited the Serbian stand at the World Travel Market, which is held from 7-9 November in London. As part of the unified promotion of Serbia’s tourist offer, the stand presented the tourist offer of cities, primarily Belgrade, but also Novi Sad, weekend programs, active vacations in nature, ski resorts, tours related to historical heritage, wine and gastronomy, as well as the most important manifestations.

Ambassador Joksimović gave a lecture to the participants of the master’s program of diplomatic studies at Oxford University. More than twenty students from 18 different countries had the opportunity to learn more about the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Serbia and the current situation in the region.

The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, received today the Ambassadors of the Quinte countries, as well as the head of the European Union Delegation at their request. On that occasion, the Ambassadors handed over a joint document to President Vučić in which they expressed their concern about the possible disruption of stability in the region, and on the eve of the deadline for the re-registration of vehicles with Serbian license plates in Kosovo and Metohija.

President Vučić said he shared the concern about possible tensions, adding that Serbia was committed to dialogue as a way to resolve open issues, to the benefit of Serbs and Albanians living in Kosovo and Metohija, without jeopardizing their state and national interests. President Vučić pointed out that the tensions so far arose due to the unilateral moves of Pristina, as well as the fact that Pristina did not respect the provisions of the Agreement on freedom of movement, concluded with the mediation of the EU.

The Ambassadors of Quinte and the head of the EU Delegation thanked President Vučić for the constructive engagement of Serbia in fulfilling the Roadmap for the implementation of the agreement on energy, as part of the dialogue with Pristina.

The meeting was partly devoted to events in the region, as well as developments on the global scene.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selaković participated in Berlin at the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the “Berlin Process" participants, which discussed the preparation of the summit of this initiative on 3rd November, but also energy security, the migrant crisis and the European integration of the Western Balkans.

It gives me honor to address this distinguished body once again and to discuss the latest report of the Secretary-General on the work of the UNMIK.

I would like to thank the Secretary-General and the Special Representative for submitting the report. We take note of the efforts that Ms. Ziadeh makes in performing this very responsible duty, especially bearing in mind the necessity of a comprehensive overview and the complexity of the situation on the ground.

We would like to inform you that the 2022 Population, Households and Apartments Census will be conducted only on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The census also collects data on household members who are abroad at the time of the census (studying, working or staying abroad for other reasons). Members of their households in the Republic of Serbia provide data for these persons.

During the period of the census, from October 1 to 31, 2022, the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia conducts a Research on nationals of the Republic of Serbia living abroad, which is intended for the nationals who, with all members of their household or as a single household, live abroad. The questionnaire will be available on the website of the Statistical Office of the Republic of Serbia from October 1, 2022 (https://www.stat.gov.rs/).

The purpose of conducting this Research is to obtain a more complete picture of the number, basic demographic, migratory, educational and other characteristics of nationals of the Republic of Serbia abroad.

Esteemed President of the General Assembly,
Distinguished Secretary-General,
Excellencies,
Ladies and gentlemen,

It gives me a great honor to address you on behalf of the Republic of Serbia.

Due to limited time, please do not mind if I skip the burden of formality, courtesy words, greetings of those who are present in this room or absent, and instead speak directly about the essence of what we gathered here.
I've been so many times in these premises. The seriousness of the present moment obliges me to share difficult, but true words with you.
Everything we are doing here today seems at least relatively impotent and vague. Our words make hollow and empty echo compering to the reality we are facing. And that reality is such that no one is listening to anyone here, no one strives towards real agreements and to resolving problems, and almost everyone takes care only of their own interests, breaching often along the way the basic principles of international law; throwing away the UN Charter and other documents this Organization is founded on.
It is neither fault of Antonio Guterres nor of anyone from UN, but of those powers who take care of nothing else but of meeting their own political, economic and unfortunately military goals.

We are witnesses that the age we live in is featured by complexity of global geopolitical situation. Our General Debate is being held in terms of undermined world peace, to the extent that has not been seen ever since the World War II and since the time the United Nations had been founded. Global challenges we are facing are threatening to radically change international security architecture and jeopardize established international legal order. Such complex times demand a lot of wisdom and unity, in order to preserve peace as the absolutely most important heritage woven into the foundations of the United Nations Organization.
That is why I would like to speak clearly and accurately before you about five key challenges we are facing today:

Point 1: Returning to peace and preservation of global stability;

Point 2: Preservation of territorial integrity and sovereignly of internationally recognized states, members of this Organization, as a key principle of international public law and relations between the countries;

Point 3: Energy security in terms of global crisis;

Point 4: Financial safety of the poor and developing countries;

Point 5: Food supply in terms of global supply chains interrupted by war.

Current global developments remind more and more often that the principle of peaceful resolution of disputes has no alternative. This principle is outstanding today more than ever before and it is best described in the UN Charter Preamble which reads as follows - "to practice tolerance and live together in peace with one another as good neighbors". Denial of use of force and peaceful resolution of disputes are the pillars of world stability; but they must be accompanied by principles such as non-selective observance of the UN Charter, implementation of mandatory UN Security Council Resolutions and basic principles of the applicable international public law.

Point 2: Preservation of territorial integrity and sovereignty of internationally recognized states, members of this Organization;

Serbia supports territorial integrity of all UN member states, including of course territorial integrity of Ukraine. In such a way, we behaved responsibly and seriously in this renowned institution. Nevertheless, we could hear from many speakers the stories about aggression and violation of territorial integrity of Ukraine. Many say that this was the first conflict on the European soil after the World War II. But, the truth that the territorial integrity of a country in Europe - • Serbia as a matter of fact, which did not attack any other sovereign country, was violated is constantly unspoken. We ask for a clear answer to the question I've been asking my interlocutors, leaders of many countries for years - what is the difference between the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, which was grossly violated, and for which you provided international recognition and legitimacy, at least some of you? Nobody has ever provided a rational answer to that question.

Let me remind you - Serbia has not stepped its foot on someone else's territory, never ever, nor has it endangered territorial integrity of a single sovereign state, so that anyone might intervene or carry out aggression against it, the way it was done against Serbia in 1999. Nevertheless, it did not prevent nineteen richest NATO countries from attacking a sovereign country without the decision by the United Nations Security Council. Signing of the Agreement with NATO - upon termination of armed conflict - whose provisions envisaged adoption of the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, and which confirmed and guaranteed partial sovereignty and full territorial integrity of Serbia, did not prevent many western countries from unilateral recognition of independence of the so-called "Kosovo" and from violating, once again, territorial integrity of our country, and violating the UN Charter and the UN Resolution 1244. Precisely for such developments that Serbia experienced and that is has been experiencing, I am convinced that I am fully entitled to quote, in this place, the words of great Martin Luther King: "Injustice anywhere is threat to justice everywhere". These words are carved like a reminder, but as a warning to all of us.

Regardless of the fact that we still feel the consequences of the gross violation of basic provisions of international public law, we do not give up on United Nations foundation principles. We shall keep advocating consistent observance of the principle of inviolability of borders, respect for sovereignty and integrity of all other UN member states. Despite such position of ours, many in this room have issues with respecting territorial integrity of Serbia. You wonder why? Because they have the power is in their hands, and in their eyes, we are small and weak. However, as you could hear and you can see, we do have the strength to tell the truth even here.

Your Excellencies,

We owe special gratitude to all those UN member states - and they currently constitute majority at this Assembly, who support territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia, particularly in the space and territory of Kosovo and Metohija. It is additionally encouraging that number of countries who support Serbia's position increased in period between two sessions, which is a trend that must continue, because it is of utmost importance to remain loyal to basic principles embedded into the UN Charter, such as the principle of inviolability of borders.

The Republic of Serbia, and I as its President, search very patiently and with a lot of good will for compromise regarding Kosovo and Metohija under the auspices of the European Union, and within Belgrade-Pristina dialogue. It is a difficult process, it has been lasting for more than ten years, but we see no alternative to it. It is better to negotiate for hundred years, than to wage war for a single day. I hope that we will reach mutually acceptable solution, based on compromise, because this is the absolutely only way for reaching our goal, which is a long-lasting peace, as a prerequisite of prosperous life for Serbs and Albanians in an entire region. We have exhausted all other options and, and speaking for Serbia, at least, we do not even dream about going back to the paths of conflicts and bloodsheds. The Balkan region could not stand another conflict. I rely on good will and understanding from our international partners, because they know well that some earlier decisions by their governments had been bad and that they had not been acting in favor of the future of our region and world peace. Belgrade is running this process under very complex circumstances with elements of hybrid war and dirty campaign in part of international community against our country, in different fields. It would be enough just to remind you of the quotes and allegations of world media that Serbia would attack its neighbors and that Serbia was a threat to regional stability. Of course, it has never happened. And it was only one among numerous lies against the Republic of Serbia. Serbia was featured as a potential destabilizing factor in the region, only to be prevented from telling the truth - that the principle of inviolability of borders must be equally applicable to all. Serbia was and it will be a factor of stability in the entire region. Serbia, despite many untruths and forgeries, supports Dayton Peace Accords, territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and integrity of Republika Srpska within Bosnia and Herzegovina.
On the other hand, we are convinced that the nations of the Balkans do have the capacity to continue their lives in the future as friends and partners with common vision of membership to the united Europe. I know this well, because we have already surpassed many barriers that had been standing between our nations for years and that had costed us thousands of lives and wasted future. Serbia and Albania, for example, today have the closest and the friendliest relationship in the entire several centuries long common history in the space of the Balkan Peninsula.
It took only clear-headed and pragmatic discussions about our future, not about our past. To talk about how to resolve problems that were bothering our people, our companies, workers, students and entrepreneurs. We had discussed a lot and reached, by ourselves, numerous solutions that have already cancelled barriers that existed between us for no rational reasons. First of all, in economy, trade and flow of people and capital. Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia have been implementing for three years "Open Balkan" Initiative, which has a clear vision - to open the region for the people, goods, services, capital and companies, in order to create the space which would be permanently liberated from tensions and conflicts. In addition to unquestionable common economic benefit that this Initiative brings, it has a broader dimension, first of all in connecting people with different cultures and in promoting diversity, which, by all means, contributes to general development of society in this part of Europe. In this way, Serbia, actually continues contributing to peace, stability and reconciliation process in the region, whereby it certainly gives significant contribution to global security.

We found the inspiration for the respective in words of one of the greatest diplomats in history and a great UN Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold that this Organization "wasn't created to take mankind into paradise, but rather, to save humanity from hell".

Ladies and Gentlemen,
The moment we curbed the global pandemic, we have already faced new, unprecedented challenges for this century. While we, as a mankind, take one step at a time in accelerated technological development, there arise existential problems ahead of us such as energy security, financial safety of the developing countries, but also distortions in the supply chains of the basic food provisions. Solidarity which had been necessary in fighting pandemic is needed to a far greater extent today, when people's basic necessities for food and energy are endangered.

The Republic of Serbia thinks of its energy security as of the inseparable part of the national security and as the key prerequisite for the continuation of economic development and progress of our country. We strive to provide the continuity of energy supply, but we share the concern for current geopolitical challenges that undermine the energy stability in the word and Europe. We remain committed to finding solutions that might have the transformational strength in attempts to reach regional and European energy safety. I would like to underline that the Republic of Serbia managed to preserve continuity in energy supply during the ongoing crisis. Nevertheless, we remain vitally interested in diversifying supply sources, in additional investment in energy infrastructure, but also in faster and more efficient development of capacities based on renewables.

It is precisely at the United Nations where we named the ongoing decade the "decade of more sustainable and resilient future, action and transformation." It has to remain like that, but at a bit faster pace. Unequal development, but also financial perils in the developing countries, cause additional social layering and inevitably bring new antagonisms. Equal development must neither be limited not conditioned either geographically or politically, but it must be provided to all people regardless of ethnic, racial, cultural or religious affiliation.

There is another, very important challenge ahead, which we must overcome together, and it is finding the most efficient way to avoid consequences of the current international crisis inflicted on global food supply security. Developments are highly alarming, and the reality is such that all of us, with no exceptions, are struck by them. Growing prices of food and its availability have become an additional problem. Task for all of us is to find operational and efficient solutions that will leave no one behind. It is up to us- states - as the most important international subjects, to involve individually in coordination of measures, first of all by contributing to this noble task at national levels, in order to preserve the most valuable things - human lives and their dignity.

The topic of this year's General Debate warns us to the problems of a moment and relatedness of international challenges. Crises we are facing remind us of the importance of open communication. It does not take much wisdom to conclude that challenges can be successfully overpowered only if their causes are properly observed. Serbia believes that it is imperative that current challenges must not deepen world divisions in any way, and that already obvious and intentional polarization at global level should make room to principles of multilateralism.

I would like to underline that the Republic of Serbia take part in collective efforts for reaching Sustainable Development Goals and implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Serbia shares Secretary General's vision in future of global cooperation in a way envisaged by "Our Common Agenda" and it strongly supports inclusive, networked and efficient multilateralism as the best tool for responding to the most urgent challenges for the mankind.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Multilateralism, collective actions and common responsibility are irreplaceable elements of our discussions so far, but allow me to underline that starting point for each such constructive engagement is solidarity.
Finally, I would like to reiterate that the Republic of Serbia will continue being a reliable partner in achieving common goals defined within the UN framework, firmly believing that it is the best path to create world for us and generations to come. But we must not forget that the United Nations are as strong as we respect commonly harmonized decisions and documents of this Organization.

Once again I will quote something that we heard twenty three times until now. This is the sentence, "The only standard we must follow is UN Charter." That's what we heard from everybody. But when we come to the case of the Republic of Serbia we saw that seventeen out of those twenty three that were speaking about UN Charter and UN resolutions violated international public law and did not obey the rules created and made by the United Nations. I hope that we'll be able to overcome all these difficulties and to make it equal, the rules and procedures for everybody in the world. Otherwise, I don't see the exit at the end of the tunnel.

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić sent a telegram of condolences on the occasion of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, which states:
                                                                                                              
“On behalf of the citizens of the Republic of Serbia and on my own behalf, I extend my heartfelt condolences on the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Her Majesty marked the modern history of the United Kingdom and the world with her selfless public service, setting an example of how to carry the authority of a ruler and perform duties even in the most difficult of times.

Queen Elizabeth II faced every challenge wisely, discretely, but decisively, primarily taking into account the welfare of the nation, which earned her the immense affection of both her subjects and numerous admirers across the world. She was the support of her family and the entire nation, which was devoted to her through generations.

Her dedicated attitude towards duties and concern for the nation and state, as well as her commitment to preserving the highest moral values and principles, became synonymous with the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, who over the decades worked tirelessly, consistently and devotedly to make the United Kingdom a prosperous country for all. Despite the numerous challenges and difficulties that marked the decades of her sovereign reign, Queen Elizabeth II demonstrated strength worthy of history’s greatest rulers beneath her outward fragility.

I extend once again my deepest condolences to Her Majesty’s family, as well as to the citizens and Government of the United Kingdom, confident that they will continue to remember her with admiration for her sovereign wisdom and patriotism.”

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke today with the UK Special Envoy to the Western Balkans Stuart Peach about the situation in the region, improvement of bilateral relations with the United Kingdom, and the current energy situation.

Ambassador Joksimović had the opportunity to host the Special Envoy of the British Prime Minister to the Western Balkans, Sir Stuart Peach, at our Embassy in London. The current situation in the region, as well as the importance of further improving bilateral relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom, was discussed with the UK high-ranking official. In this context, it is expected that the bilateral dialogue will continue and the high-level meeting between the representatives of Serbia and the United Kingdom will be held.

The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, received a congratulatory message from the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Boris Johnson, on the occasion of taking over the function of the President of the Republic of Serbia.
The message reads:
"Dear Aleksandar,
Please accept my warm personal congratulations on the occasion of taking office as President of the Republic of Serbia in another term. Today, more than ever before, we must work together as partners on urgent challenges, including regional security, stability and energy transition.
I am looking forward to close cooperation with you, bearing in mind that the United Kingdom continues to support the future progress and development of your country, including strengthening democracy and the rule of law, fighting corruption and building strong and independent institutions, all vital to Serbia's future.
Russia's invasion of Ukraine has further heightened the urgency of addressing some of these challenges. I congratulate you once again and hope to discuss these important issues and our successful bilateral relations again soon," said Prime Minister Johnson’s congratulatory message.

Today, in Marrakesh, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS. Minister Selaković said that Serbia was committed to the multilateral aspect of the fight against terrorism, adding that he firmly believed the United Nations should be the key forum for international cooperation in this field.

On the occasion of 9 May, Victory over Fascism Day, HE Aleksandra Joksimović, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the United Kingdom, laid a wreath at the Memorial “Tower Hill” in the City of London,

Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in London H.E. Aleksandra Joksimović has received the Knight of Honour Award for diplomatic excellence at the 17th Edition of Asia-Europe Business & Social Forum 2022.

Addressing the organizers and participants of the Forum, Joksimović underlined that the award was a great honour and incentive for her to continue her engagement and diplomatic efforts to bring the two countries, Serbia and the United Kingdom, closer.

We would like to inform the nationals of the Republic of Serbia who submitted their duly filled in requests on time and exercised their right to vote abroad, that voting in the Parliamentary and Presidential elections of the Republic of Serbia will take place at the palling station No. 23, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London, 28 Belgrave Square SW1X 8QB, on Saturday, 2nd April 2022, from 7 am to 8 pm.
When you come to the polls, you need to bring an invitation and a valid identification document of the Republic of Serbia - a biometric passport or ID card.

On the occasion of Serbia's presentation at the International Food and Drink Event in London, a reception was held at the Embassy for participants, representatives of the British business community and interested partners. The gathering at the Embassy was yet another opportunity to promote Serbian food products of exceptional quality, establish business contacts and consider future cooperation.

Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in London, Aleksandra Joksimović, visited the stand of Serbia at the International Food and Drinks Event, held from 21-23 March in London. As part of the joint presentation of our food products of exceptional quality, the companies Flora doo Ivanjica, Basket Zdravija Hrana - Made by Hand, Damar Confit, Cold Pressok and Matijašević Vineyards exhibited at the Serbian stand.

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic talked today with Minister for Energy, Clean Growth and Climate Change of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Greg Hands about strengthening bilateral cooperation, implementing the Green Agenda and cooperation between the two countries.

In view of the upcoming elections in the Republic of Serbia, scheduled to take place on 3 April 2022, we quote the notification issued by the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government:

“Voters residing abroad are hereby advised to contact the appropriate diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia, not later than five days before the day of the finalisation of the Single Electoral Register (on 12 March 2022 at midnight), in order to present a request that their intention to vote abroad in the upcoming elections be noted in the single list of voters.

Such a request for entering the voter's intention to vote abroad in the Single Electoral Register must include the following data: first name and last name of the voter; the single ID number of the voter; the municipality, i.e. the city and address of residence of the voter in the home country, as well as data on the municipality, i.e. city and address of residence abroad that will determine the polling station where the voter will vote in the upcoming elections, and the signature of the applicant.

The diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia, where the expat has filed the request to enter his/her intention to vote abroad in the Single Electoral Register, will thereby duly inform the competent municipal or city administration corresponding to the original place of residence of voter, which will then issue a corresponding decision.

Once the competent Electoral Commission for the elections passes the decision on the selection of the polling stations, the competent municipal or city administration will adopt a decision on entering the note that the voter will vote according to his/her place of residence abroad and the polling station where he/she will vote, or, conversely, the decision that the conditions for the voter to vote at his/her place of residence abroad have not been met.

After the adoption of the decision that the voter will vote in the upcoming elections according to the place of residence abroad and such a note is entered in the Single Electoral Register, the voter will no longer be listed in the excerpt from the Single Electoral Register according to his/her place of residence in the home country but will be listed according to his/her place of residence abroad.

The information that the note that a voter will vote abroad may only be entered in the Single Electoral Register if that person is already listed in the Single Electoral Register. If a person who has the right to vote is not listed in the Single Electoral Register, the decision on the request for listing the intention of the voter to vote abroad, implies that the procedure for the registration in the Single Electoral Register be completed beforehand.
 

The request to be included into the Single Electoral Register, together with the request for entering the annotation that the voter will vote abroad, will be submitted to the diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia, which in turn will forward both requests to the competent municipal or city administration, according to the applicant’s last place of residence in the home country prior to emigrating, i.e. according to the last residence of one of his/her parents.

Voters can access and check the Single Electoral Register online by entering their citizen’s single ID number and identity card or passport number, through the official website of the Ministry of State Administration and Local Self-Government.
Voters residing abroad are further informed that, through the diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia, they may also file a request to the municipal or city administration at the place of their residence in the home country to receive information on their personal data contained in the Single Electoral Register."

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs hereby invites citizens of the Republic of Serbia who wish to exercise their right to vote abroad to contact the nearest diplomatic or consular mission of the Republic of Serbia.

On the occasion of the Statehood Day, a reception attended by a large number of guests was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London. Along with the representatives of the FCDO, the House of Lords, MPs, UK state institutions, international organizations and the diplomatic corps, the gathering was attended by prominent representatives of the diaspora, as well as members of the academic and cultural community in London. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selaković stated that today’s meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Western Balkans with the Secretary of State for Foreign Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom Elizabeth Truss in London was an excellent opportunity to exchange views and represent the positions of the Republic of Serbia regarding the issues significant for the stability of our region.

On the eve of the New Year’s holidays, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London hosted students from Serbia, gathered in the Organization of Serbian Students Abroad (OSSI) who study at prestigious British universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, University College London, Imperial and others.

At the expressed interest of students of Slavonic and SEE studies at the University College London (UCL), the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London organized a lecture held by Ambassador Aleksandra Joksimović on the topic of foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Serbia and the European Integration Process. 

At the invitation of Martin Vickers, MP and Special Trade Envoy for WB, Ambassador A. Joksimović paid a two-day working visit to Cleethorpes constituency in Lincolnshire in the North of England.

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic stated today that severe examples of endangering the Serbian cultural, historical and spiritual heritage in Kosovo and Metohija are proof of the important role of UNESCO in protecting and preserving heritage.

The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, met today with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom, Sian MacLeod, with whom he discussed further strengthening of bilateral and economic relations between the two countries, as well as the participation of the President of Serbia in the forthcoming United Nations Summit dedicated to climate change, COP26, which will be held in Glasgow in 7 days, and which will cover topics that concern, as the ambassador said, the biggest global challenge we are facing. The meeting was also attended by Giles Portman, Director for Europe at the UK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Development and Commonwealth Affairs.

A group of students from several cities in the United Kingdom was welcomed by Ambassador Aleksandra Joksimović. I would point to a few ongoing issues in my speech that refer to the competences of the Mechanism, namely, the possibility of serving the sentences passed by the ICTY and Mechanism in the Republic of Serbia, with the current practice of disabling early release of the sentenced persons as well as obligation of the Mechanism regarding protection of sentenced persons.

A new service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs "e-Consulate" was presented in Belgrade today, intended for foreign citizens who apply for a visa and aspire to come to Serbia to work.

On-line application for issuing D-employment visas has started in the Republic of Serbia. Viza D allows entry into the Republic of Serbia and stay between 90 and 180 days. It also enables the regulation of temporary residence in Serbia.

We would like to inform you that the Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, concluded on 16 April 2021, is provisionally applied from 20 May 2021.

On the occasion of 9 May, Victory over Fascism Day, HE Aleksandra Joksimović, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the United Kingdom, laid a wreath at the Memorial “Tower Hill” in the City of London, dedicated to Allied ships sunk during both world wars.

On 16 April 2021, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of the Republic of Serbia Tatjana Matic and Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Belgrade Sian MacLeod signed a Partnership, Trade and Cooperation Agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom at the Serbia Palace in Belgrade.

The Agreement sets a new legal basis for regulating bilateral trade, which was previously defined by the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the European Communities and their Member States and the Republic of Serbia.

Serbian popuilation is expressing very high support and trust in the Serbian Army. We wish we should never need them in action, but strongly believe in their capacaities to defend us if necessary.

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić talked today via a video link with the representatives of the delegation of the International Monetary Fund led by the Head of the Mission, Jan Kees Martijn. The interlocutors concluded that Serbia's main goal remains to preserve the hard-earned reputation of a fiscally secure country, as well as to continue with a responsible fiscal policy so that public debt does not exceed 60 per cent of GDP, whereby Serbia continues to work on further economic growth.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selakovic stated today that Pristina further persisted in its campaign of hatred against the Serbian people, which was most drastically seen in the unfounded accusations of mass rapes and genocide.

At the UN Security Council meeting discussing the Report of the UN Secretary-General on the work of UNMIK, Selakovic emphasized that the efforts of the provisional institutions in Kosovo and Metohija to create a narrative about mass rapes of Albanian women were obvious, and that propaganda methods and lies were used for that purpose.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selakovic warned, at the United Nations Security Council meeting, that the political extremism among Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija was not decreasing, but on the contrary, was becoming stronger.

At the meeting discussing the Report of the UN Secretary-General on the work of UNMIK, Minister Selakovic recalled that the obligation to form the Community of Serb Municipalities  remained unfulfilled for 2,917 days now and that, in fact, 19 April marked eight full years since the agreement was reached in Brussels, while Pristina still refused to follow up on its commitment and enable the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities. 
 

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić sent the Letter of Condolences to Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh:

“On behalf of the citizens of Serbia and on my own behalf, I would like to convey to you my most sincere condolences on the death of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

Prince Philip will always stand as an example of selfless public service through his relentless efforts and commitment to contributing to the well-being of the United Kingdom. With his vibrant personality and sense of unwavering responsibility for even the most demanding and difficult public duties over the decades, he has gained the undivided affection of not only the British people but of the entire world.

He was deeply committed to the well-being of the United Kingdom. Unobtrusively, but firmly, he won the hearts not only of his compatriots, but of all people regardless of nation, race or religion. He is appreciated for his seriousness, devotion, cheerful spirit and sincere patriotism, which he expressed through his constant service to the state for decades.

As a descendant of prominent royal families, Prince Philip showed the strength and consistency of an officer even in the most difficult of times, thus serving as a pillar of strength for his family and for the whole country, which will remember him with respect and deep admiration.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selakovic said today that the fight against all forms of crime was a top priority of the Serbian Government and an integral part of the EU accession process.

President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic welcomed a plane at the "Nikola Tesla" airport, which delivered to Serbia the vaccines made by "AstraZeneca" company. President Vucic pointed out that the 150,000 doses that arrived this morning meant that 150,000 more persons would be vaccinated in Serbia, and added that Serbia, along with the UAE, became the only country in the world that had more than three vaccine types available. 

The Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church elected His Eminence Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana, PhD, as the new Serbian Patriarch, in its convocation in Memorial Cathedral of Saint Sava in Belgrade on 18 February 2021.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Nikola Selakovic had a meeting today via video-call with Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence in Irish Government Simon Coveney, with whom he discussed the deepening and promotion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Army Aleksandar Vucic attended a demonstration of capabilities of one part of Serbian Army units in the "Rastko Nemanjić" barracks in Pancevo. On this occasion, President Vucic stated that Serbia was ready to continue the EU-facilitated dialogue with Pristina at any point, while respecting also the position of the United States as well as the positions of Russia and China.    

The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London has a pleasure to announce that it has become richer for the artistic portrait of Čedomilj Mijatović, one of the first 16 academics of the Serbian Royal Academy and its second President, as well as the founder of the National Bank of Serbia. As a six-time Serbian Minister of Finance, a multiple Minister of Foreign Affairs, and a long-time Ambassador of the Kingdom of Serbia in London, Mijatović left an indelible mark on British-Serbian relations. He was also a signatory to the trade agreement with the United States in 1881, which is marked as the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Serbia's foreign policy positions are naturally being adjusted to the new developments at the international level, but our foreign policy priorities have not changed in a long time. Our top and most important interest is to preserve good-neighbourly relations and stability and peace in the region and, in the same context, to find a peaceful and just solution to the problems in Kosovo and Metohija, Serbian Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said in an interview with Politika daily.

Our compatriots living abroad are one of the great potentials that the state has not recognized in the right way so far, which is why a different approach is needed to the issue of how to strengthen our diaspora and use the good will of people who are potential lobbyists for the interests of Serbia and the Serbian people, Foreign Minister Nikola Selakovic said.

This year, Serbia could finally have Ambassadors and Consuls General appointed to about a third of the currently vacant positions in the country's diplomatic and consular missions in the world, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic is convinced that most of these positions will be filled, as he points out, by the best possible people.

Preservation of peace, taking care of the health and better living standard are key for Serbia in 2021, underlined President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic, convinced that even though the completion of this ambitious and by no means easy task will be anything but straightforward, best results can be achieved by working in concert with the Government, while ensuring security and a future of certainty for the citizens. 

Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Ana Brnabic received today the first vaccine against the coronavirus made by Pfizer company, at the Torlak Institute of Virology, Vaccines and Sera.

Brnabic, who is the first European Prime Minister to receive the vaccine, pointed out that this day may be the first since 6 March that we have a reason for a smile on our faces as it marks the beginning of the end of the coronavirus pandemic in Serbia, but also in Europe and the world.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies the allegations of some domestic media that Serbian citizens  temporarily working abroad will have to pay taxes on foreign income, not only in the country of their temporary residence, but also in Serbia.

We believe that the catastrophically intoned texts, based on insufficiently researched facts, on a topic that most directly concerns a large number of citizens of the Republic of Serbia abroad, unreasonably create concern among our citizens, which can be concluded from the increased number of their inquiries to diplomatic and consular missions of Serbia.

We appeal to the residents of Serbia who are temporarily abroad not to pay attention to incorrect sensationally intoned texts on this topic, because, when it comes to taxation procedures for that category of our citizens, nothing will fundamentally change in relation to the previous practice.

In the hope that behind the irresponsible and inaccurate media articles on this topic there is no evil intention but misunderstanding, we emphasize that Serbia is doing and will continue to do everything to help its diaspora in every way.

Foreign citizens will not be allowed to enter Serbia as of 20 December 2020 without a negative RT- PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 virus, not older than 48 hours, issued by the reference laboratory of the country from which they come or enter the Republic of Serbia, in order to protect against the introduction of infectious diseases into the territory of the Republic of Serbia. If they do not have a negative PCR test, they will have to return to the country they are coming from. If there is a delay in entering the Republic of Serbia, which cannot be attributed to the fault of the passenger but is a consequence of an external event that could not have been predicted, avoided or eliminated (delay / cancelation of flight, departure of buses, trains, etc.), then the test cannot be older than 72 hours when entering the Republic of Serbia.

Citizens of the Republic of Serbia and foreign citizens who have been granted temporary residence or permanent residence in the Republic of Serbia, as well as members of diplomatic and consular staff and their family members, upon entering the Republic of Serbia, who do not have a negative RT-PCR test for SARS virus CoV-2, issued by the reference laboratory of the country from which they come or enter the Republic of Serbia, not older than 48 hours from the date of issuance of the results, will be required to self-isolate at home for 10 days. The quarantine can be interrupted once they provide a negative RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 virus issued by a reference laboratory in the Republic of Serbia.

The work of the All-Party Parliamentary Friendship Group with Serbia was reaffirmed at the virtual meeting chaired by  Andrew Bridgen MP, on 14 December.  Ambassador Joksimović informed the participants of the meeting about the foreign policy priorities of the Republic of Serbia and presented an overview of bilateral relations with the United Kingdom. She informed the members of the Group about the current data on the degree of COVID-19 infection, the efforts that are being made in the health care of the population, as well as the state's engagement in obtaining vaccines.

On the occasion of Human Rights Day, 10 December, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia once again expresses its commitment to the achievements and values of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted on this day in 1948.

Ambassador Joksimović met the Minister of International Trade, Jayawardena. The main topic of conversation was the improvement of economic relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom. Ambassador Joksimović informed her interlocutor about the current economic and political situation in Serbia and outlined the basic directions of foreign policy. In her presentation, she emphasized the positive economic trends despite the pandemic and noted the significant opportunities for intensifying economic cooperation with the United Kingdom.

We would like to inform you that the Government of the Republic of Serbia, at its session on 21 May 2020, passed the Decision on termination of the Decision on closing all border crossings for entry into the Republic of Serbia - which terminated that decision passed on 19 March 2020,  the Decision on termination of the Decision on closing border crossings - which terminated that decision, as well as the Decision on amendments to the Decision on declaring COVID-19 disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 virus a contagious disease, which entered into force on 22 May 2020.
By all these decisions, all border crossings of the Republic of Serbia have been opened and they are functioning in the usual regime as of today.
Amendments to the Decision on declaring the COVID-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus a contagious disease lifted the ban on entering the Republic of Serbia, as well as epidemiological measures for all categories of domestic and foreign nationals. (without consent / permission, isolation measures and mandatory possession of a negative PCR test).

In accordance with the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia on the termination of the Decision on closing all border crossings for entry into the Republic of Serbia, i.e. the possibility of entry of all foreign nationals into the Republic of Serbia without permits, conditions have been created for issuing visas for foreign nationals in all diplomatic-consular missions of the Republic of Serbia, with the application of preventive measures in order to prevent the spread of the COVID - 19 disease (wearing masks and gloves, keeping a distance, making an appointment for visits, etc.).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Directorate for Cooperation with the Diaspora and Serbs in the Region, has announced the calls for co-financing of projects that, through their quality, contribute to the preservation and strengthening of ties between the home country and the Diaspora and the home country and Serbs of the region, which are opened from 18th May 2020 until 1st June 2020.

Ambassadors of the United Kingdom to Serbia and Serbia to the United Kingdom, Sian MacLeod and Aleksandra Joksimović, hosted a virtual four-hand piano concert dedicated to the fight against the coronavirus.

In order to facilitate access to cultural contents to the citizens of Serbia as well as to users from other countries during COVID-19 epidemic, the Ministry of Culture and Media of the Republic of Serbia made available a large scale of programs of  National Cultural Institutions in digital format in different languages (virtual tours, digital audio and video materials, photos, texts, 3D scanned objects, etc).

In order to combat the spread of infectious disease caused by the COVID-19 virus, the Consular Section of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London informs all citizens of the Republic of Serbia residing in the jurisdiction of this diplomatic-consular mission that work with the customers shall be limited to emergencies only, starting from Monday, 16 March 2020 until further notice. 

As part of the Serbian Month in the UK, the British Library, in collaboration with the Serbian Council, organized a panel discussion on 9 March 2019 about Miloš Crnjanski on the occasion of the publication of the first English-language translation of “A Novel of London”.

Invited by Father Nenad, Head of the Church of the Holy Prince Lazar in Birmingham, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Nataša Marić attended the Open Day of the Church during which a rich cultural and artistic programme was held, on Saturday, 10 February. 

A concert of the harpists of the “Mokranjac” Music School from Belgrade, the oldest music school founded in 1899, took place in the premises of the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London, on February 9. 

On Friday, February 9th, the Embassy was honoured to host a writer and translator Maja Herman Sekulić who spoke about her creative opus.

Visitors will be able to get acquainted with the diverse and rich culture offered by Serbia that will be presented across the United Kingdom. On Saturday, 9 December 2017, a meeting was held between Chargé d’Affaires a.i. Nataša Marić and President of the humanitarian organization Blazing to Serbia Steve Logan and his associates.

In the framework of the Centenary Commemoration of Dr. Elsie Inglis, a humanist and a women’s rights activist who formed hospitals and provided assistance to the wounded in war-affected countries during WWI, and particularly in Serbia, a central commemoration was held in St. Giles Cathedral in Edinburgh, on 29 November 2017. 

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the Republic of Serbia Nebojsa Stefanovic paid an official visit to the United Kingdom on November 27 and 28. 2017. 

On 16 November 2017, "Opera Awards" Foundation organized a recital where 2017 winners of the scholarships awarded by this Foundation participated. 

An exhibition titled "Tito in Africa" organized by the Museum of Yugoslavia was opened at the Pitt Rivers Oxford Museum on 13 November 2017.

An event took place in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) of the United Kingdom, on Tuesday, 17 October, to mark the 180th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

During the London Fashion Week, our young designer Nevena Ivanovic, along with her brand NEO DESIGN, participated in the Ones to Watch fashion show in the framework of the Fashion Scout Programme where she presented to the London audience the collection ATHENEO, inspired by the motives from the novel Dictionary of the Khazars, by Milorad Pavic. Being selected by top international experts, Nevena Ivanovic, as the winner of the Fashion Scout SEE competition, got the opportunity to present her work at the London Fashion Week.

On the eve of the forthcoming general elections in the United Kingdom, the Embassy of Serbia in London hosted a lecture/discussion with the London Bureau Chief of the New York Times in London, Steven Erlanger regarding UK snap elections

Ambassador Ognjen Pribićević on 8 May 2017 met in the Serbian Embassy with Tara Stankovic, a pupil from primary school Stari grad from Belgrade, who won the first prize at international competition organized by the Shakespeare Foundation in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in London, dr Ognjen Pribicevic and Defense Attache of the Republic of Serbia in London Colonel Sasa Perovic, on 9 May 2017 laid a wreath at a memorial dedicated to those who perished in the Second World War.

Having successfully connected British company Flexitog with a Serbian company Yumco from Vranje, the Embassy of Serbia found another investor in the United Kingdom. Since mid-last year, the Embassy of Serbia organized several meetings with the management of International Water Solutions company.

An exhibition of naïve art from Kovacica school opened in the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in London on 27 April 2017. The opening was attended by a large number of guests from cultural and public life in London including the members of Slovak and Serbian diaspora in the UK.

Competition for the design of a conceptual solution

Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in London Dr. Ognjen Pribicevic gave a lecture at the University College London on 6 March 2017 on the current changes in international relations and their impact on contemporary diplomacy.

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the death of Dr. Elsie Inglis,  Mrs. Zvezdana Popovic, a prominent member of Serbian diaspora delivered a lecture in the North Kensington library on 28 February 2017, entitled “Deeds not words: A Story of Dr. Elsie Inglis”.

The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia on February 15 hosted a reception in the Embassy to commemorated the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia.

The Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the “Fiery Mary of Livno” Association mounted an exhibition in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, on 27 January 2017. The exhibition entitled “The Serbs of Livno Plain – Enduring through the Centuries” was authored by P. Pilipovic and Professor V. Djuric Misina.

On 13 December 2016, the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London hosted a film screening event for documentary “Serbs on the Corfu – 100 Years of Albanian Golgotha”.

On 25 November 2016, David Norris, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Russian and Slavonic Studies of the University of Nottingham presented his recent book “Haunted Serbia: Representations of History and War in the Literary Imagination” in the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London.

ON THE OCCASION OF THE ARMISTICE DAY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF SERBIA HEADED BY AMBASSADOR DR OGNJEN PRIBIĆEVIĆ LAID A WREATH AT BROOKWOOD MILITARY CEMETARY.

Director of the Office of the Republic of Serbia for Kosovo and Metohija, Marko Djuric visited London from 25-27 October 2016.

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej and a delegation of the Serbian Orthodox church visited the United Kingdom from 12 – 18 October 2016, at the invitation of the Anglican Church and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.

Reception was held in the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London on 12 October 2016 for the participants of the Central and Eastern European Investment Conference held in London. 

Master plan “Belgrade Waterfront” which has been on display since the end of July in department store Harrods, Knightsbridge in London has been seen by more than 200,000 visitors. 

Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic met with UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Boris Johnson. In a very friendly and cordial atmosphere they discussed bilateral relations, situation in the region and the UK support to Serbia on its European path.

At the London Fashion Week, held from 16 to 20 September 2016, Serbian fashion designers held several shows to present their works. 

An exhibition entitled “The Melting Pot” opened on Friday, 22 July 2016 in the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia.

On Friday 22 July 2016, the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London co-hosted the tasting of Serbian products and wines. In their opening statements,

A commemoration was held on 28 June 2016 in the UK Parliament to celebrate a centenary of the “Kossovo Day 1916 in Britain”. The event “Vidovdan 2016: Commemoration of the Centenary of the ‘Kossovo Day’ 1916 in Britain”, was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in London and the association “Serbian Council in Great Britain”. 

Pupils of ballet school ASD from Belgrade performed before the Royal family in the final celebration of Queen Elizabeth II 90th birthday, as part of Patrons Lunch, held on 12 June 2016, as the only participants outside the United Kingdom.

On 8 June 2016, a debate was held in the UK Parliament on cultural democracy and diplomacy, under the auspices of a non-governmental organization ProArt.

On 6 June 2016, a ceremony was held in George Heriot’s School in Edinburgh to mark one hundred years since the arrival of 27 boys from Serbia. The event was attended by several hundred pupils, their parents, representatives of local communities, church and some twenty descendents of Serbian pupils. Also present were Ambassadors of UK in Belgrade and Serbian Ambassador to the UK.
