His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej and a delegation of the Serbian Orthodox church visited the United Kingdom from 12 – 18 October 2016, at the invitation of the Anglican Church and the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.
The timing of the visit coincided with 100th anniversary of the historic sermon given by Bishop Nikolaj Velimirovic in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London during the First World War.
Following a meeting with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Patriarch Irinej also met with the Bishop of London Richard Charters who was decorated by His Holiness with a medal of St. Sava for his contribution to the Serbian Orthodox Church. Serbian Patriarch Irinej also met with the representatives of both houses of the British Parliament.
This high-ranking visit between the two churches culminated in an evensong by Patriarch Irinej in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London.
In addition to meetings with his hosts, the Serbian Patriarch also met with members of Serbian community in Great Britain and performed service in St. Sava Church in London and the Church of the Holy Prince Lazar in Birmingham.
