Ambassador Joksimović met the Minister of International Trade, Jayawardena. The main topic of conversation was the improvement of economic relations between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom. Ambassador Joksimović informed her interlocutor about the current economic and political situation in Serbia and outlined the basic directions of foreign policy. In her presentation, she emphasized the positive economic trends despite the pandemic and noted the significant opportunities for intensifying economic cooperation with the United Kingdom.
On this occasion, enthusiasm was jointly expressed when it comes to negotiations on a trade agreement between the Republic of Serbia and the United Kingdom, on the eve of January 1, when the transition period of Brexit ends. Both sides are fully engaged in this task, bearing in mind the interest in the smooth implementation of economic activities and the importance of defining future trade relations.
After numerous virtual meetings with the UK officials, the meeting with Minister Jayawardena was the first live meeting of Ambassador Joksimović, at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom, since the beginning of the pandemic and the application of restrictive measures.
